Soriška Planina is part of the Julian Alps and lies on the edge of the Bohinj Mountains. The Julian Alps are the highest mountain range in Slovenia, and most of their area is protected within Triglav National Park. Since 2003, the Julian Alps have been designated a biosphere reserve, ensuring special protection for their natural heritage and biodiversity.
